Rear View Mirrors
Rear view mirrors aka RVMs are an integral part of any automobile especially motorcycles. The reasons are many. You can see what's coming up from behind you as also see what you just left behind. You are at a better position to judge how to go forward- either stick to your lane or move to the side to let a faster approaching vehicle pass you by. When a big lorry looms large behind you, you might skip a heartbeat or two while a small scooterist wont be of much bother but you know you cant afford to drop your guard in either case. They also prevent you from suddenly cutting in front of someone else and which could be fatal for yourself as them. Sometimes, the road behind seems more beautiful than the one you can see ahead. Or sometimes, the mirrors let you catch a glimpse of an accident that you just zoomed by without initially paying much notice to it. Flashing lights of a car behind you warn you of its arrival by its presence in the mirrors, a car whose noise you might have missed in the din of the rest of the traffic. Sometimes when another has been blocking your way and you finally manage to get past him/her the look of their face in the mirror is priceless. As is also seeing them disappear into the horizon behind you. And when you finally stop and you see them catch up with u,it is most probably that neither of u will be too much bothered cos the 'battle' was over a long time ago.
RVMs are esential safety equipment and riding without them is riding blind to everything the road has to offer.
The mirrors have to be adjusted according to what gives the best view. It is not a surity that you will never crash but you will atleast assure yourself, in some way or the other 'cos you would have done your part.
In the road of life, it is not only important to look ahead but also to keep an eye behind, but not all the time. Retrospection is not always negative and how much we can learn from what we have already learnt so much before is unfathomable and unpredictable but usually very important. And something we should never be blind to.
